Michael Howell
Sheriff of Coosa County

      Sheriff Michael Howell is a life long resident of Coosa County.  He attended Rockford Elementary School from Kindergarten to his 8th grade year.  Once completing his 8th grade year at Rockford Elementary he went to Coosa Central High School and graduated in 2000.  Sheriff Howell began his career in law enforcement as a Coosa County Reserve Deputy.  During his tenure as a Reserve Deputy he volunteered countless hours to help the residents of Coosa County.  In August of 2007 he was hired by the Alexander City Police Department as a Patrol Officer.  Sheriff Howell obtained his APOSTC accreditation at Jacksonville State University.  Sheriff Howell was assigned to the Patrol Division for a little over a year before being promoted to Detective.  He worked his way through the ranks and was later promoted to Corporal over the Alexander City Police Department Detective Division.  While working in the Detective Division he received many prestigious awards to include Detective of the Year and two Unit Citation Awards.  Sheriff Howell worked many high-profile cases for the Alexander City Police Department ranging from simple thefts to Capital Murder cases.  He is responsible for working over 1000 felony cases for the Alexander City Police Department.  Sheriff Howell obtained an Associates Degree in Science from Central Alabama Community College.  He would later graduate from Faulkner University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice where he was also awarded the Alfonzo Coleman Award.  Sheriff Howell married his high school sweetheart and have been blessed with two beautiful children.  Sheriff Howell was elected Sheriff of Coosa County on November 6, 2018 and took office January 15, 2019.  He states, “I would like to thank the residents of Coosa County for trusting me as their Sheriff.  I am excited about the future for Coosa County and will work hard to make sure it remains a safe place to live and work”.
